Steel Oatmeal with fruit topping

I just thought I would post this because I think steel oatmeal taste better then rolled oats. The only thing is that they do take longer to make then your instant oatmeal, but you get some much more health value with steel oat in comparison to over-processed, artificially favored instant oatmeal. If you want to enjoy morning grains for your breakfast I believe this is a better alternative for you then your typical donuts, sweetened cereals, or croissant.

Experiment with toppings. You can use fresh fruits, other dried fruits, yogurt, etc. Another topping that I really like to add to my oatmeal beside the one mention below is peanut butter, banana, and raisin. I know, it sounds weird. I learn this from a policeman one day at work when I saw him put peanut butter into oatmeal in the cafeteria. It's actually pretty good and will definitely stick to your ribs.

Ingredients:
1 cups water
1/4 cup steel oats
1/2 cup almond milk
3 Tbs flaxseed meal
1 apple, chopped
2 Tbs date paste
1/4 cup dried apricots
1/4 cup almonds

Direction
1. Bring 1 cup water to boil.
2. Add steel oat and flaxseed meal and stir until mixture thicken and just beginning to come to a boil.
3. Lower heat to low and let simmer for 30 minutes.
4. Add 1/4 cup almond milk to oats and stir to combine. Turn off heat and set aside to cool.

Toppings
1. Chop up apples into bite size pieces.
2. If you don't have any pre-made date paste, just take about 5 dates and place in food processor. Process until smooth paste. This will add sweetness so no additional sugar needed.
3. In food processor, coarsely chop up dried apricots and almonds.
4. In a small sauce pan, add 1/4 cup almond milk over medium high heat. Add apples and cook until soften.
5. Add date paste, apricots, and almonds to sauce pan. Cook until heat thoroughly.
6. In a bowl place 1-2 cups cooked oatmeal and add toppings. Enjoy.
